The Art of Being
Hello and welcome. I’m Vix, psychotherapist and somatic movement practitioner and I offer an approach to therapy where your body is invited into the conversation of what it means to be you.
In one to one therapy we create a space to explore the full landscape of your lived experience by working not just with language but also with simple body awareness and movement practices to quiet the noise of overthinking and to make space for the knowing that comes from within.
I also offer supervision a space to reflect on how you do what you do for therapists and other professionals in the fields of health, wellbeing, and education.
What I offer
-
At Moving and Being I combine traditional talking psychotherapy with gentle movement and body awareness practices that invite your body to become part of the conversation. So whatever you are struggling with, this is therapy that invites you to slow down and helps you to turn down the noise of overthinking and make space for a different kind of knowing.
We attend to your words and your story as a guide towards noticing how your body is responding. Gradually, you begin to notice the subtle language of your body, the micro movement, tensions, habits and patterns that are part of your embodied life and history. Noticing this language can offer clues to the past and invites new perspectives on how you feel in the present. This is therapy that offers tools and practices as well as a space to be heard.
If you are wondering about the meaning of the word“somatic”in a therapeutic context click on the word to be taken to a link. How you engage with this process is collaborative, you choose what feels right and comfortable.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist since 2009 and have worked in acute mental health in the NHS, in fostering and adoption, in family assessment, early years settings, schools and with people with sensory impairments and since 2021 with adults in private practice.
Prior to this I was a dancer/ performer, a dance education project manager a somatic movement researcher and a dance educator working with children, young people and adults. I became passionate about movement improvisation which means moving without a set structure or steps. To dance with others cultivates skills in non verbal communication and it requires a particular kind of attention, both to one’s own moving body and to the movement and expression of other dancers. It requires an ability to shift between lightness and weight, strength, speed and sensitivity in an instant. Cultivating these skills and practices took me into the fields of dance and health where I danced in hospitals and hospices with people living with long term illness and brain injuries.
Movement play and dance are the language we use before language, or when language is temporarily unavailable, or after langue has left us.
I have learned so much about our development as humans from working in early years settings as a movement therapist. Prior to language - children simply embody their feelings and these embodiments become aspects of our movement profile as adults.
To dance is be playful, and playfulness is how we learn, even as adults. It is how we learn to be creative and it firmly roots us in the here and now.
