Vix Thompson MA. RDMP.

Integrative Somatic Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck or exhausted from holding it all together, you’re not alone. We live in challenging times and most of us are expert at hiding our distress and carrying on. If you have chosen to engage in therapy - how do you choose the right therapist for you?

At Moving and Being I combine traditional talking psychotherapy with gentle movement and body awareness practices that invite your body to become part of the conversation . So whatever you are struggling with, this is therapy that invites you to slow down and helps you to turn down the noise of overthinking and make space for a different kind of knowing.

In our work together, I listen to your words and your story and sensitively help you to turn your attention toward yourself - to the micro movements of your breath, the feelings in your stomach or the tension in your jaw that arises in relation to particular thoughts or memories. Gradually, you begin to notice the subtle language of your body and your nervous system. This language offers clues to the past and the present and invites new perspectives. This is therapy that offers tools and practices as well as a space to be heard.

I offer online and in person sessions in the Hastings / East Sussex area and I work with a wide range of people from 18 and upwards.  I work with LGBTQIA+, trans and non binary people, people of colour, neurodivergent identifying people (no certification required), people with disabilities, and sensory impaired people.

What I offer

  • There can be some confusion as to the meaning of the word “somatic” in a therapeutic context. Click on the word to be taken to a help link.

Because we all live differently in our body and feel differently based on the experiences we have had, you may feel nervous about what a somatic approach to therapy might feel like and this is OK and understandable. Your questions can be explored in our initial meeting. Most people stay seated in somatic therapeutic process and others might choose to stand up or move their body in space.

I work with adults 18+ and welcome LGBTQI+, POC, ADHD, ASD, people living with sensory impairments (sight / hearing / speech ), disability and I work with low mood, overwhelm, stress, anxiety, childhood trauma, family estrangement, sexual abuse, eating disorders, relationship issues, panic attacks, grief, loss, reproductive issues, body issues, chronic health conditions.

I offer in person sessions at The Wellington Centre and Hasting’s Therapy Centre.

I offer short and long term therapeutic processes starting from 6 sessions to a more open ended process.

Sessions start at £65 and I offer concessions for those unable to work or on low income.

  • "It would be no exaggeration to say that my therapy sessions with Vix were life-changing. Over several years a tragic and difficult personal situation had sapped my self-confidence and enjoyment of life. Vix helped me to set up strategies to protect myself and over weeks of discussion and encouragement, gave me back not only a sense of self-worth but also hope for the future. She is someone who possesses great empathy and I found myself able to talk about problems that up till that time, I’d kept private."

  • "I suffer from fibromyalgia and CPTSD. Vix has been helping me regain what has been taken away from me at birth; the right to rest and relax. Her soft kind and gentle approach is perfect for my healing journey and releasing trauma and pain from my body. After each session I felt safer, more relaxed and with less pain."

  • “During the second meditation, during my ‘grounding’, it felt like I had become my image and I experienced a feeling of calm and levitation. I definitely was not expecting to feel that”
